Almost 200 people attended the annual FE Sussex Spring Awards ceremony which was held on Thursday March 25th at the Hilton Metropole Brighton.
The ceremony can be seen via the following link.
The Bafta style gala evening is a very high profile celebration of student achievement, the 12 winners and 12 runners-up having been chosen from a large field of entries drawn from colleges and private training providers across Sussex. The main sponsor of this year's ceremony was City & Guilds - the UK's leading vocational education awarding and assessment organisation. Their commercial director, Sue Hill, said "we are delighted to sponsor this event which celebrates the achievement of learners". Other sponsors included the Hilton Brighton Metropole, Edexcel qualifications, Northbrook College Sussex, The Assess and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) and The Sussex Council of Training Providers (SCTP).
Winners and runners-up were presented with trophies and certificates by representatives of sponsors and also by selected Principals of Sussex colleges. Dr Tim Strickland, CEO of FE Sussex commented "the annual Spring Awards is one of the highlights of the further education calendar in Sussex. Behind every award made there is a story of personal commitment, achievement and motivation. Many award winners have overcome the most adverse personal circumstances while on the road to success such as dropping out of school or suffering severe health problems. We congratulate all winners and runners-up and hope the awards will provide a further boost to their personal motivation".
The Spring Awards provided the ideal occasion for Sussex colleges and their students to showcase their expertise, education and training. The lead college for this year's 2010 Spring Awards was Sussex Coast College Hastings. Their students provided the silver service to winners, runners-up and guests and choreographed an outstanding fashion show performance as part of the evening's entertainment.
City College Brighton and Hove students prepared a mouth-watering range of desserts for the meal whilst students from Northbrook College were responsible for the wine and beverage service.
Chichester College students designed and created the wonderful flower arrangements on the tables and the stage.
Guests were greeted on their arrival by Air Cabin Crew students from Central Sussex College.
